It was not the sound of bells, but rather the buzz and rip of chainsaws that could be heard this morning at the Kennedy household. We finally had the dead trees in our backyard cut down. It did not seem to make sense to put it off any longer, especially after what happened with our neighbor’s tree. While part of me wanted to do the job myself, I must admit that it was the best money I have ever spent hiring labor. The workers quick and they were insured. It would have taken all day and the risk of hitting a house was not worth it–not when it only cost us $700 (though it’d have been double if we asked them to haul off the debris).
There were six trees in all, but the one in the foreground had a split trunk (effectively making it seven).

The work crew arrived at 9:45 AM and were already down the street by 11:45 AM when Pamela came home.

I have lots of good oak firewood for you if you are willing and able to 1) come pick it up, and 2) chop it down to size. My suggestion is that you rent a log splitter. I won’t do it for you, as I would just as soon as roll them down the hill behind our house. Please contact me if you are interested in the wood.

I am also going to tell the folks at church in the morning. I have to get rid of this soon so that I can overseed the grass. « Our New Ride [...]
