The good news is that we called the hospital this morning at 4:00 AM and there was one of the small labor rooms available. That place really was packed out. When we walked in the nursery was wall to wall babies. The bad news is that “Kiki” has not been born yet. I guess he heard Isabel when she said, “I want the baby to stay inside of you, Mommy.”
The Pitocin drip started around 7:15 AM this morning and after a couple hours there were some nice contractions going. However, the doctor was unable to break Pam’s water since she had not dialated enough. For part of the afternoon the contractions subsided, so they had to up the dosage on the drugs. By dinner time she was at 1-2 cm, enough to break the water, but that meant about a 3:00 AM delivery. Her doctor felt like it would be better to suspend everything and pick it up again in the morning. Her weekend plans have also changed enough that she will be back tomorrow in time to deliver the baby.
While we are somewhat disappointed, it is good that Pamela is able to eat and get some rest. She hardly slept at all last night and is pretty exhausted. I just ran and got her some dinner and am now back at the house grabbing a few things. There is no Wi-Fi at the hospital and they got rid of those internet appliances since Isabel was born. Please pray for a successful induction and that it does not end in a C-section (I’m sure this scenario sounds vaguely familiar to one of our readers in particular).

Try to rest Scott. We’re praying for you. Romans 8:28
Labor is always more palatable when rested. I pray Pam can really sleep. I was never able to get any rest in those hospital beds. . .especially the labor/delivery ones. Ick. But food is especially good. Keep her well hydrated, too. I learned that one the hard way. Proper hydration makes a HUGE difference in labor. I’m glad they didn’t break her water. Better chances of not having a C-section. I’m praying you awake to discover she’s almost fully dilated while she slept (hey, He IS a God of miracles!!).
Ahhh! The suspense is killing me!
Borrowing my FIL’s Treo to check email. Rested okay but not great last night. Started Pitocin again at 7:00 AM. Broke water at 8:30 AM. Getting great contractions, but not a lot of dialation…only 3cm so far.
This is the same pattern we had with Isabel in which Pam labored all day until right before midnight. The doctor decided to check her one last time before ordering a C-section and she had come far enough in less than an hour to go ahead and push.
